Are there certain settings needed to host Palm? As you know it wouldn't work for me the other night whereas I've not had any problems hosting in GS or via direct connect LAN.
Any tips would be appreciated.

really all its doing is nabbing IP addresses and passing them along to whoever is logged in.
What we need is a dedicated IP server thats not using gamespy, just local network. The problem with all of this is non members wont be able to find the server, and want to join up.
I am leary of installing stuff... a large increase in malware, wrapped trojans etc. Norton has been stopping stuff like crazy this last week. Web pages infected, software infected... Wndows update even got hit again.
Good Idea tho Palm, I could write us up a little ditty of our own that would do same thing. But we still have the issue of new members.

Wind, the night that Stick and I tried it he was talking about getting another "box" to be active at all times to route through this program. That way there would be access to non-members through GS, but members would be able to sign up for Hamachi and therefore bypass the logon issues at GS.
I think that's what he meant anyway! LOL :P
It seems to work well although I'd like to see how it would handle a large group. Lag etc.

It creates a VPN (Virtual Private Network) so everyone that uses it are on a LAN basically. They all get assigned an IP at install that never changes. Its pretty slick. It sets itself up as a network card. It works great! You can host on GSPY and LAN at the same time and those running Hamachi have a direct connect. It is secure totally unless you enable file sharing in it. Then, any one on that network can browse, just like a LAN. IT seems to work nicely. IF its running and you load up FSX and connect to LAN, any servers on the network will appear in the lobby.
Tip, if you know there should be a session up and its not showing in the lobby it is most likely a firewall port that needs to be forwarded. There is good help on the website as this is a commercial product. The free version has limited function. But works fine for gaming and simple LAN emulation over the internet.
I am with you Ian, I want to see how it performs under load.

Same here at the moment, maybe no one is connected so the VPN is not up right now. When someone hosts it will be if they fire up Himachi

Anyone can log onto Hamachi at any time. If others are on you will see that indicated. I will be setting up Hamachi on the system where the server has been running. This will allow anyone here to access it without using gamespy.
