as long as it aint too bumpy, a lil 2 door chevette used to take me and my friends down skidoo trails...and a foot of snow..iceroads are fun in the winter time...did an ebrake doing about 50mph in a lil hatchback..that was fun!
but i dont 'condone it to any GB'rs..

Foo

I agree, I have parked my 1972 Datsun 510 at 6000 above MSL in places people had cows over. I used brake all the way up a 1 mile 22% grade in very rough ruts.. I depressed the throttle and put the engine at about 4000 rpm, and used brake to hold my speed down to maneuver the very rough road at a very slow speed. I made it. I learend to drive off road in a 1966 Cadillac Deville. Way too much motor for dirt, its two feet driving. One to keep her humming (Throttle), and one to adjust speed (Brake).

My collector car looks just like the one above except its Crazzy Frooggg green..

Tommy, you would have loved the night I was camped on the south rim of the Grand Canyon during a lightning/hail storm. The tree next to my tent got hit. We were too afraid to get out of the tent and get tall to run to the van, or we might be hit. Got up the next morning to find that the ranger slept in the restroom and all the other campers had left. That had to be the scariest night of my entire life.

Wow lol. Yeah me and a buddy of mine were tenting out one night on my property and a huge thunderstorm hit us about 2am and one bolt was so close to the tent that the lightning and the thunder happened at the same time with that loud crack noise and we both jumped out of our sleeping bags simultaneously without saying a word and high tailed it across my property all the way into my house and we stood there in the garage and said "holy crap" at the same time. LOL that was intense.

One thing about the offload. If you are on a mainline log road, 40mph is cool. But, you have to slow down, straddle holes and ruts, and get damn good at picking the best path. I swear, I have taken vehicles up/down places they should never go. But I was taught how to do it by a master who believed that if a car didn't weight more than 2000 lbs, and have more than 400 cubic inches, it was not a car at all.. I saw my old man tow 18 foot trailers to the top of mountains and park them next to fire lookouts. I rode up with him more than once, and knew in the back of my mind that going up was the cake. I chose to not ride down. I walked the top several miles many times back down. I knew that going down is way more dangerous than going up. And here is the moral of the story. Anytime you facing a climb, consider getting back down before you commit to going up. Really..

Going up under power, defeating gravity, is deceiving. Its a whole different ballgame coming down with gravity against you.

Example, this trail runs along the road we drive. Its a switch back.. Watch this dude on a mountain bike, eat it.. The road makes these same switch backs, its just larger is all. Gives a false sense of confidence.

At 1:20, he is looking at the ridge to the east of 21W (Ranger Creek)

Watch him EPIC FAIL moments later.. lol

Man, you know that he just sh@t himself when he tipped over at first, then was just waiting for the unfun roll back down. He paused for a second before gunning it down hill with a big ole' sh@t eating grin.

FIXED!!! There was a tiny little stone between the rotor plate and the brake rotor. Our neighbor and friend is a mechanic and we asked him and he said there was probably a rock in between the rotor plate and the rotor. Sure enough, we took of the front driver side tire, looked in, and there was a stone in there. Popped it out with a screwdriver and put the tire back on and it runs like a charm!!

Hey guys.... last night we had severe thunderstorms. One bolt of led lighting had to hit something in my yard because I heard the thunder at the exact same time I saw the light and the thunder only lasted a second, like it was close.

Well this morning I go out to get in the Jeep (it was in the driveway last night) and it started fine, reversed ok, but when I put it in gear it was like the E-brake was stuck on and it screeched along... I have no idea man, it worked fine yesterday.

Maybe it got struck by lightning?? I'm going to have the mechanic look at it. What you guys think?

Yes it can happen.. I faced similar problem after thunderstrom and it was due to lighting

Reviving old threads!! :) I remember this! Hah!

And Walter, that problem ended up being a very tiny pebble being stuck between the brake disc and it somehow it was causing the brakes to engage a little bit. I got it fixed though, it took my mechanic about 3 seconds to figure out the problem and then used a small long screwdriver to get it out. All in all it was like a 15 second fix. He didn't charge me hehe :P Plus he's my neighbor so I didn't even have to go anywhere. hah

I had a Ford truck that was bad for getting those small stones stuck in the front brakes Tommy. They changed the design on later models and it never happened with them, but it was a weekly thing for me on that one truck. Pain in the butt! lol
